"I was a Co-ed": Female Students and the Role of the Dickinsonian

Date
1951

In her memoir recounting her time at Dickinson, Elizabeth Low remembers the the role the Dickinsonian played in the lives of female students. Though female students were prohibited from writing for the Dickinsonian, much information regarding female students was included in the college newspaper. She recalled her friend reading her an excerpt from the Dickinsonian: "Listen to this, 'the new co-ed says she is too old to be in Prep--We thought she was real young, but you never can tell a girl's age.' That bit of flippancy clung to me, although even Preps grow up."
