Women in the Army: EDITORIAL

The April issue of the Women’s Newsletter features an editorial regarding the armed forces and a panel discussion sponsored by Dickinson’s R.O.T.C. about “Women in the Army.”  The author reviews the panel’s discussion, which was to be about career opportunities in the army but quickly “became centered around the ‘morality of war’ question".  Many negative attitudes towards the military surfaced during the discussion because of different attitudes regarding the Vietnam War.  The author says that is necessary “to rid ourselves of our snobbish attitudes towards the military” long enough to examine the opportunities it offers, especially for women.  The article reports that the Army is trying “to set an example for the country by adopting the Equal Rights Amendment into all of its practices,” benefits and pay are equal and promotion is based on service and not sex.
