Phi Mu's Membership Statement

Date
1967

To further prove that Phi Mus refusal to allow a bid to go to an African American student was unjust, the creators of the soon-to-be Alpha Delta Epsilon sorority included in their scrapbook the membership statement of Phi Mu. It states that qualifications for membership are œbased on individual merit and have no restrictions based on race, religion, or national origin. On the same page of the scrapbook, the women of Alpha Delta Epsilon include documentation of the œnegative recommendation of Bobbie Swain and the ultimate refusal to allow a woman of color to receive a bid, which illustrated that Phi Mu obviously did not practice what they preached.
