President's Council Minutes: Cut Classes, MP Late Permissions, Dress and Drugs

Date
November 15, 1961

During the Presidents' Council (Women's Interdormitory Council) meeting of November 15, 1961, the Council discussed a variety of topics including women excusing missed classes with illness and then going out, "late permissions" for women Mermaid Players working on productions, "appropriate" dress for campus functions, and prescription drug sharing:

"Sickness and Illness Excuses: Presidents' Council discussed the problem of girls receiving illness
excuses from a house director to cut classes during the day and then going out that night. It was
decided that a house director giving a girl an illness excuse should make the girl understand that she
is expected to stay in that night. If the girl goes out and her recovery is not understandable, the
house director will contact the dean to recall the illness excuse.

Annoucements:

  • A new late permission system has gone into effect for Mermaid Players late permissions,  Dean Wishmeyer announced. Mr. Brubaker will send a list of girls who may be working late on a play to the Dean and she will notify the house directors. A girl who expects to return late from a rehearsal will sign out "MP crew" or "MP cast" and she will receive a "time slip" from Mr. Brubaker when she  leaves the rehearsal. This should be given to the housemother when she returns to the dorm.
  • Dean Wishmeyer reminded girls to dress appropriately on campus and at college functions. This should be  stressed in dorm meetings so that it is not neccessary to make rules on the subject.
  • The Dean also warned girls about taking medicines prescribed for someone else. Girls should take their own prescriptions or get medicine from the housemother."
