United Nations Commission on Women Representative Speaks in Chapel

On April 28, 1964, Gladys Avery Tillett, the U.S. representative to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, spoke during chapel at Dickinson.  A full copy of her speech is housed in the Archives.  During her talk, Tillett addressed the global changes taking place regarding women's roles and status in society, government, and the workplace.  She shared her observations of changes in women's roles in countries she had visited in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.  She argued that women deserve improved status as a means of contributing to improving the lives of their families, especially their children.
