Sexual assault

This article by Tari Getz '91 in the June 1988 edition of Dickinson Today presents the history, purpose and spirit
of the Women's Center, describing it as a place of comfort for all.

The Women's Center sponsored Dr. Mary Leonard, staff psychologist and associate professor at University of Maryland, and Ms. Lori Serratelli, Harrisburg attorney, to speak on sexual harassment in the Weiss Center.

On Sunday, April 10, 1988, students participated in "Take Back the Night"
rally and march, sponsored by the Women's Center, to protest and raise
awareness of rape.  Mike Dever reported on the event, describing the march route and some opposition the
marchers experienced in the Quad in the April 14, 1988 edition of the Dickinsonian.

A lecture was given by Christopher Simpson on March 25, 1997 in Weiss Center for the Arts about "Comfort Women" who were victims of sexual enslavement during World War II.  The talk accompanied an exhibit in the Trout Gallery on the same subject.  The talk was sponsored by the Sociology, History, and Anthropology Departments, the Women's Studies and International Studies Programs, the Clarke Center, the Commission on the Status of Women, and the Trout Gallery.

This Dickinsonian article discusses how a delegation of students from the College "joined over 100,000 women as they rallied in Washington, D.C., protesting violence against women." It mentions the inclusion of the Clothesline Project, both at the rally itself and at Dickinson.

This Dickinsonian article discusses Rape Awareness Week that began with "Take Back the Night", a march through the dining hall which culminated in a "speak out" in the HUB.

Following up on the story from the previous week, The Dickinsonian discussed the continued controversy from the anonymous, anti-Greek publication "Stop the Violence" that accused Dickinson fraternities and sororities of crimes including hazing and even rape. 

The College Club and Peace Action co-sponsored an open forum in ATS to discuss the situation that was attended by over 400 members of the Dickinson community.
