debate that took place in Memorial Hall on September 20, 1987 about
affirmative action at Dickinson and education nationally.
Dickinson hosted a week of events surrounding National Coming Out Day in
1996 entitled "Self, Family, World: Continuing the Struggle for
Acceptance."Â The events included a debate over gay marriage, a showing
of the movie Go Fish, a discussion led by the Mechancisburg
Chapter of P-FLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), a lecture
The Women's Studies Program and English Department sponsored Beth Frost, professor at Fordham University and former-Dickinson College English and Women's Studies professor, to do a reading of her own poetry on April 11, 1997 in Memorial Hall.
The Women's Studies Program and the Clarke Center sponsored Jo Freeman, a
noted author, speaker and political activist, to speak on women's
political issues in a talk titled, "Feminism vs. Family values: Women in
the Democratic and Republican Parties."Â The talk took pace in Memorial
Hall on December 4, 1996.
The Women's Studies Program in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Humanities Council sponsored Dr. Janice Hamlet, Director of Ethnic Studies at Shippensburg University, to come and speak on "the African American Woman's unique struggle in mainstream society," in Memorial Hall on September 19, 1996.
Dickinson College Chapel program for "A Celebration of Women" as part of the observance of the women's decade. Chaplain Mary Anne Morefield preaches the meditation or sermon, entitled "Women: Celebration and Solidarity."
Susannah Heschel, daughter of the Jewish philosopher Abraham Heschel, to visit Dickinson College on April 1st, as announced in The Sheepskin, the Chaplain's Office newsletter. She is scheduled to teach two religion classes and then give an evening lecture titled "On Being a Jewish Feminist."

The Zeta Eta Phi Fraternity began as one of the local sororities. Seeking to be part of a national organization, however, they changed their name and became the Beta Beta chapter under the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
A welcome reception open to the student body was given at Memorial Hall, but the ceremonies partitioned by national officers were held at Mrs. Fred P. Mohler's home (wife of one of Dickinson's professors).
Rev. Myrna Bernadel returned to Dickinson College in 1984 for the Congress of African Student's Black Arts Festival. On Sunday March 4, 1984, she led a college church service in Memorial Hall at 11:00 a.m.
